Composite

Compostion:
I positioned the cats in a playful way that look like they're interacting with each other. the bed is in the center and your perspective is at the same level of the cats.
Concept:
I wanted create a scene that appeared to have multiple cats interacting with each other.
Method:
I set up my tripod and first took an image of the room without the cat, then set the camera on delay and took pictures of the cat going after a string i was manipulating. i did this to make sure lighting was correct in each image.
motivations:
I wanted to see what it would be like to have a couple Dallas'
interpretation:
classmates probably think i'm a crazy cat lady.
evaluation:
composite was believable.
extenison:
i could carry on this cat theme and position Dallas in numerous places around the apartment.

2D/3D

Composition:
Same composition from the composite but i placed in fabrics and patterns to replace the reality of the image.
Concept: I wanted a put together, scrapbook image made digitally. This aesthetic relates to my thesis and wanted to try it out to see how it worked.
Method:
I scanned in images of patterns and fabrics then magic wanded them out of the picture and placed them in the corresponding areas.
motivations:
i wanted to try this out for my thesis project to get a feel for what it would look like.
extension:
use this in my thesis project.

workshop 4: Light/shadow/projection

Light/Shadow/Projection
Composition: I love the flow of the light hitting the guitar case guiding your eye from the
right  to the bottom right back up to the image of the guitar projected. It has a nice balance
of darks and lights that really move your eye around the picture.
Concept: I was trying to project an image I made about my mom onto a sculpture I had made about my mom. The sculpture was very light colored but I didn’t take into account the fact that there were many holes light could escape through so the image wasn’t being captured. I decided to try to make the image larger and put the object in the scene but that wasn’t very successful either. Then I decided to try it out on another object, my guitar. Since the image being projected was an image of my mom’s guitar I decided that projecting it on my own would be conceptually projecting her interests/beliefs/morals/etc on myself like she has my whole life. My mother is a huge part of my life and means a lot to me so in the end plan b turned out to be conceptually stronger than plan a and I think it turned out well.
Method: I used a very old projector, like one your old middle school teacher would use to project math notes and problems.
Extension: I could possibly push this concept further and project different images of my family on specific objects that mean something to me or have a connection to them.

HDR
Composition: I used the frame to capture the headboard of my bed along with the window as the center of my focus. My cat just happened to be lying on my bed so I thought that added another interesting element to the picture and wanted to be sure to capture it. I turned off all the lights in my room to be sure I captured the natural light from the window.
Concept/Aboutness/Idea: I like the personal homey feel of the inside of my bedroom juxtaposed to the outside cold, dreary looking world and wanted to really put that on display in this image. Because HDR is already an unreal looking concept this two elements really pushed that.
Method: I bracketed several images of my bedroom from very long shutter speeds to very fast in order to have enough images to mold into one.
Motivation: Like what I said about my concept, my goal was to capture two opposite scenes and have you especially question the HDR composition.
Extension: I could use this image as part of a series of other unreal scenarios. Cozy bedroom, not so cozy outdoors, or visa versa.

blog prompts

1. Think of various ways in which your “view” or visual perception of the world is altered, distorted, manipulated, reframed, blurred, disrupted, obstructed, etc. List some.
through objects made of glass, windows, door frames, stairwells...
2. What objects “change” the way you “see” things in the world?
     sunglasses, eyeglasses, 3-d glasses, goggles...

3. What experiences change the way you “see” things in the world?
blindness, eyesight, losing vision in one eye...

4. What is the relationship between the way you visually “see” the world and the way you “experience” the world?
visually seeing has a big role in the way you experience the world, without being able to visually view the world you rely on your other senses. When you look back at a particular experience in your life your brain replays the visual aspects of that experience, then comes the emotions you feel towards those visions. Visually seeing has a strong relation to our experiences.

distorting the cameras view

In the first two I used a piece of packing paper, similar to bubble wrap but not as thick. In the first image the lens is covered by this substance that i have cut holes into so you can get a glimpse of whats behind it but in the second image the tree line is totally distorted. You get a feel for the light and dark and can make out the tree line, but only because the other image is shown before it. In the third I took pictures of my room and layered 12 images together to make this 1.

digitalize yourSELF

Compositionally, I tried to balance organic shapes with geometric giving each piece a nice flow so your eye can move around each easily. I also think each has a nice balance between dark and light giving your eye a nice resting place, they're busy but not too busy. I tried to approach each in a similar way so they could be cohesive; layering, pallet, line, etc.

My image is about myself and my interests, what makes up me. The first is an image of my thumb print. I used that print in a pattern-like floral print because its a recurring style in my work. In the second is an image of my hand and a piece I made in construction and fabrication because I really enjoy working with my hands.

Method: I scanned each image separately and layered them in photoshop.

I was motivated to make these images for myself because the project was to express yourself in an altered way.
